The High Plains region includes the states of Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
January is very cold and dry in the High Plains. It is a bit milder as you go south. There isn't much precipitation because it is so dry, but since it is very cold, most of the precipitation does fall as snow.
