Flash Flood! is an interactive lesson about flash floods and other types of floods. The lesson lets students learn about and identify different types of floods. It has information on how to prepare for a flood,  teaches about flood watches and warnings, has an online quiz to review information, and an assignment where students will be looking for and recording flood watches. 
 
Grade Level: 
This lesson is designed for grades 3 - 10.
It is designed to be completed in 30 - 60 minutes by a single student.
Overview: 
This lesson explains floods and flash floods. The About Floods page explains the difference between floods and flash floods, and why flash floods occur. The Flood Types page explores some of the different types of floods that occur. There is an online quiz that lets students match the picture of the flood type with the written description. 

Safety- This lesson contains information about flood safety. The Safety Rules page contains a list of things to do in case of a flood. The Flood Prep page contains information about ways to prepare for a flood before one takes place. This page also contains links to the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) web site for information about Family Disaster Plans and Disaster Supply Kits. 

Quiz - This lesson has an online quiz that students can take, reviewing information about floods form this lesson. The quiz is graded online and the results are sent to the teacher by e-mail. 

Assignment - The Flood Watch page is an assignment that lets kids make a weather map containing any flood or severe weather warnings. A United States map will be needed for this assignment and is provided online; either the student can print off a copy, or the teacher can print off a copy and give them to the students. The page has links to severe weather web sites. Students will visit these sites and record the weather warnings on their maps. This assignment can be repeated over several days with students making different maps, allowing them to track the progress of severe weather.
