Now that you've finished reviewing both sides to the global
warming argument, it's time to apply your knowledge and find your opinion.
For the Class:
If you are doing the Global Warming lesson as a class, you'll be having
a debate about global warming. Your teacher will divide you into two
sides; believers in global warming, and skeptics of global warming.
The opposing sides will debate about the existence and the problems
of global warming. Your teacher will tell you what kind of format
you will use for your debate, so remember to ask for details.
Your teacher will also assign a certain amount of time to research your
position, so use your time wisely. Meet with your partners and decide what
your argument will be. Find facts that will support your position, and
that your opposition will have a hard time arguing against.
For the Individual Student:
If you're doing the Global Warming lesson as an individual student,
we also have an assignment for you! You can write an essay about global
warming from the viewpoint of a different person.
You can choose to write your essay as an environmentalist who's a believer
in global warming. You essay can be about environmental policies and ideas
that you have to stop global warming, and why they will be effective.
Or you can write as an industrialist who is skeptical about global warming.
Your essay can be about new environmental laws to stop global warming.
You can write about how they will affect your business, and what you think
should be done instead.
Whatever side you write about, you'll need to research the facts to
defend your arguments. Your teacher will decide on a format or how long
your essay should be.
Remember: Support
your case for the debate or your essay with the strongest facts you can
find. Opinions won't make a convincing argument for any side.
